  • Diabetes Mellitus – Causes, Picture, Symptoms And Treatment

    Having diabetes is one of the most common conditions that you can get in your lifetime.  If you want to know more about the condition, here is the article for you.  We will try to explain the origins as well as the symptoms and causes of type 1 and type 2 diabetes as follows:

    The Definition of Diabetes

    Diabetes or Diabetes Mellitus is commonly referred to as the series of metabolic diseases wherein the person involved has high blood sugar or that the body does not respond to insulin produced.  This disease can be caused by a variety of reasons answer will be discussed in the article later.

    Symptoms

    As with other diseases, it can be presented with the various symptoms that you can watch out for if ever you suspect that you have diabetes.  Subsequently, there are three major symptoms. These are as follows:

    • The patient will frequently urinate.
    • You will have increased thirst.
    • Your craving for food will also increase.

    Please note that the development of the symptoms may vary depending on what kind of Diabetes you have.  In type 1 diabetes, it will usually develop in a matter of weeks whereas with type two diabetes, it usually takes longer and the progression slower.

    Different Types of This Disease 

    Incidentally, there are three types of diabetes mellitus.  These are known to be the following:

    • Type 1 diabetes – this refers to a condition wherein the patient’s bodies usually would not have the capacity to produce insulin.  This would then require a person to have insulin injections frequently.  This is also called insulin-dependent diabetes.

    • Another kind of diabetes is known as gestational diabetes.  This refers to a condition in pregnant women wherein they are afflicted with high levels of glucose in their blood during their term.  Unfortunately, if not treated properly it may make sure with the development of type 2 diabetes.

    As of late, there are several other known forms of diabetes.  These include the following:

    • Congenital Diabetes
    • Diabetes related to Cystic Fibrosis
    • Steroidal Diabetes
    • Monogenic Diabetes

    Causes

    As mentioned earlier, there are various causes of diabetes depending on which type you have.

    • Type 1 diabetes would be partially inherited but also could be triggered by internal infections.
    • Type 2 diabetes would most likely be caused by lifestyle and eating habits.

    It can also be caused by other symptoms as follows:

    • Genetic defects both in insulin production and beta cell function.
    • Infections
    • Drugs
    • Pancreatic Defects

    Management/ Treatment

    Fortunately, this disease has been treatable ever since the development of insulin shots.  However, it is important that you know what kind of Diabetes you have so that you will be able to undergo the proper treatment.

    Lifestyle changes are certainly in order especially in the case of type 2 diabetes.  You can also say some medications such as insulin shots or any other medication recommended by the doctor.
